A particular artwork, "Source"

The challenge was to create an eye catcher to draw ones attention to the 4 pylons, located in the center of the site, dressing them up and erecting them in structural relation between the different infrastructures of the site. After a consultation conducted by RTE, the accompanying art was entrusted to Elena Paroucheva, a Bulgarian artist.

The reflection led by Elena PAROUCHEVA, in association with the lighting designer, has resulted in:

The painting of the pylons. The establishment of colourful guys from the middle of each tower to the ground.
The enhancement by monochrome lighting from the ground, which boosts the installation, giving the work movement.

Thus, these 4 pylons simulate a figure dressed in a monumental gown.

The symbols

Elena Paroucheva decided to propose installations transforming the high-tension pylons into artwork. To carry out her approach, she conducted a thorough reflection on the history of the city of Amneville, its past, its present life. Objective, propose "a particular artwork for a particular site"

The name "Source" chosen by the artist for her work, based on the nature of the activities of the spa city of Amneville.

Her thinking has enabled her to identify ideas and symbols representing the city of Amneville which she developed as part of her project:

Amarellus: the first component that gave the name of Amneville and that comes from the name "man Amarellus' under the Frankish period.

City of Steel: Industry born in the 1900’s in the region; Steel is one of the materials proposed for the construction of the instillation.

The Energy: important symbol because the work “stands on” the energy transporters, above all, the pylon.

The stages of the project

This project was initiated in 2003 and completed in 2004. This operation is unique in France, carried out in a short period, is the result of a collaboration between the artist, the mayor of Amneville, teams of RTE, and the contractors.

At the end of April 2003 to May: Completion of the mechanical study

This study aimed to examine and validate the technical feasibility of different artistic projects proposed by Elena Paroucheva, namely to verify that the addition of guys, for example, would corrupt affect the solidity of pylons.

From May to June 2003: Validation by the Cabinet study, Study of lighting

The study mechanical completion, the Cabinet architecture developed then the technical project, ie the specifications to be met for the development of the work.
Meanwhile, studies have been conducted to determine the most suitable lighting the artwork. The final choice was based on a monochrome lighting directed from the ground.

From June to September 2003: Negotiating contracts and procurement orders

The specifications "purchase" on the transformation of the towers has been completed. The consulting firms takes place and two companies were selected, one for the painting and another for civil engineering.
